For over a century, the Hellenic Ladies Benevolent Society (HLBS) has supported individuals and families of Hellenic origin in the Greater Montreal Area. The HLBS programs offer assistance for children, students, and families with diverse needs. The HLBS Camp Program

Making Summer Memorable for Children of All Abilities

Since 1988, the HLBS Camp Program has helped families of modest means send their children to enriching day and overnight camps. We cover camp fees for eligible families, giving children the chance to experience joy, growth, and connection in a safe summer setting.

Our Program Includes:

Day Camps

 – including camps run by the Hellenic Community of Greater Montréal

Overnight Camps

 – such as Camp Edphy in the Laurentians (2-week sessions with sports, boating, horseback riding, and more)

Special Needs Camps

 – including Camp Massawippi, Summit, Peter Hall, and others, providing care and fun for children and youth with special needs while offering respite for caregivers

Educational Assistance Program (EAP)

Helping Children Succeed in School

Our EAP provides financial help to families for school-related expenses so every child can have a successful academic year.

We Provide Support For:

  • School supplies
  • Lunch programs and supervision fees
  • Tutoring and extra-curricular activity fees
  • Educational technology (e.g. computers, glasses)
This program is funded by the proceeds of all of our fundraising activities and supported by a committee of dedicated volunteers.

Community Assistance Program

A Lifeline for Families in Crisis

Since 1922, the HLBS has provided emergency support to underprivileged members of the Hellenic community in and around Montreal.

Available Support Includes:

Crisis Intervention

– emergency help with food, rent, clothing, medical needs, utilities, and more

Compassionate Aid

– holiday assistance, funeral and burial support

Community Services

– referrals to government/social agencies, camp sponsorships, and
educational support

Bursary Program

Supporting Educational and Personal Growth

The HLBS awards four $2,000 bursaries annually to support studies and training for youth of Greek origin.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident living in the Greater Montreal Area
  • Must be enrolled (or planning to enroll) in an eligible program during the upcoming academic year
  • Must demonstrate financial need

Bursaries Are Offered For:

  • Post-Secondary Academic Studies (age 16+)
  • Vocational Training
  • Sports Training
  • Creative/Performing Arts

Upon receipt of your request for information for the Bursary Program we will send you the application form that includes the list of supporting documents you must submit. Recipients are selected by a committee based on defined criteria.

Dreams Take Flight

A Magical Day at Disneyworld for our Children

Dreams Take Flight Montreal supports HLBS by offering children supported by HLBS programs the opportunity to visit Disney World in Orlando, Florida for a day.
